General Information

One of the easiest way to have a computer running 24/7 is to rent a Windows Server (VPS) from a Hosting Provider.

Below are some of the Hosting Providers I'm using to rent a VPS.

List of suggested VPS Hosting Providers​

OVH is the best, but it's also the most expensive.

Hyonix and Contabo offer reasonable performances for a cheaper cost.

  • CPU Cores:
    • 2 CPU Cores for Windows
    • Add between 0.25 and 0.5 CPU cores per instance of MetaTrader
  • Memory / RAM:
    • 2 GB of RAM for Windows
    • Add between 0.5 and 1.0 GB of RAM per instance of MetaTrader
  • Storage:
    • 40GB of storage for Windows
    • Add 2GB of storage per instance of MetaTrader

For the storage, if you have the choice between NVMe and SSD, pick NVMe, it's faster.

Example of VPS settings​

Let's assume you want to run 5 Expert Advisors at the same time, so 5 MetaTrader installations on the same VPS.

Based on the suggestions above, the VPS configuration could approximately be:

  • CPU: 2 + (5 * 0.25) to 2 + (5 * 0.5) = 2 + 1.25 to 2 + 2.5 = 3.12 to 4.5 CPU cores
  • Memory: 2 + (5 * 0.5) to 2 + (5 * 1.0) = 2 + 2.5 to 2 + 5 = 4.5 to 7 GB of RAM
  • Storage: 40 + (5 * 2) = 40 + 10 = 50 GB of storage

Since some Expert Advisors will need a different amount of resources, so it's hard to predict exactly how much is needed.

The VPS configuration to choose will depend on how many Expert Advisor you want to run.
